Construction of the "Pinnacle"
Stonemasons
Stonemasons (2)
The two photos above were probably taken during the construction of the "Pinnacle", a tower built in the late 19th Century on a high point near Cowling and which had a commanding view of the area for many miles. William Teal is certainly on at least one of these photos, and probably both. He and his father/stepfather, Isaac Bancroft, were both stonemasons.

Farling Ing Top, Cowling
Farling Ing Top
Isaac Bancroft and Nancy (nee Teal) lived here from some point in the 1880s, with William Teal, Martha and Elizabeth. The family of Smith Bancroft, almost certainly Isaac's brother, also lived in one of the houses, which were new at that point. It is thought that they were actually built by Isaac and/or William.
One of Nancy's grandchildren, Florence Teal, still resided in Farling Ing Top until her death in the 1970s.

These photos are not dated although all appear to have been taken at the same time - the child is the same in all. They have a late 19th Century look, which makes it possible that they show Isaac and Nancy and maybe Annie Ogden's mother, Jane nee Hutchinson (on the left). However, this is far from certain. Equally likely is that they are Nancy (left) and John & Jane Ogden. The woman in the two right hand side photos bears a remarkable likeness to their daughter Annie Ogden.
What is certain is that the photos were taken in Cowling and the one on the left has "Mrs Ogden" handwritten on the back.
Please Note: The 3 enlargements above open in new windows (to make comparisons easier).

The date and exact location - certainly within the Cowling area - of this photo is unknown. Annie Ogden appears to be the lady just to the left of the middle of the picture.

Is this Cowling School? Or perhaps Ickornshaw? Maybe it's a Sunday School or other gathering. If you know, please email me.
